BREAKING NEWS:Amanda Staveley announce new takeover failure….
Amanda Staveley is set to join the board of a digital tokenisation company after failing to buy a minority stake in West Ham United.
A move to buy the Hammers broke down earlier this month. Staveley – who sold her shares in Newcastle United two years ago – had an offer accepted to buy Vanessa Gold’s 25.1 per cent stake.
However, minority owner Daniel Kretinsky exercised his pre-emptive rights to hijack the deal. West Ham fans had been overwhelmingly supportive of the proposed Staveley bid.
Amanda Staveley statement
In a statement to supporters, Staveley shared her disappointment at not getting the takeover completed. The former Toon chief also revealed that she aimed to buy both Gold’s and Sullivan’s stake.
“We are obviously disappointed not to have been successful in our bid to acquire the 25 per cent shareholding in West Ham United,” the announcement read. “For transparency, our original offer was for both David Sullivan’s 38.8 per cent stake and Vanessa Gold’s 25.1 per cent stake in the Club.
“There was always the potential that the other shareholders would take up their rights under the shareholders’ agreement, which is what they have elected to do. From the outset we and our global investment partners approached this opportunity with enormous respect for West Ham, its history, identity and most importantly loyal and committed supporters.
“We saw real potential to make a positive difference, rejuvenate the club and help West Ham compete consistently at the highest level of English football. Mehrdad and I along with our partners retain the greatest respect for the West Ham community who supported us both in the stands and online in recent weeks.
“We will continue to follow this process closely. Our ambitions for the club remain and we would be open to the opportunity to work constructively with the existing shareholders in the future, subject to us not taking up other opportunities that have been presented to our consortium over the past week.”
New Amanda Staveley venture
Sky News have now revealed that Staveley will accept a new role at Ctrl Alt, a financial infrastructure start-up. Matt Ong, who founded the company, recognised Staveley’s connections in the Middle East.
According to the report, Ctrl Alt specialises in the tokenisation of digital assets. Similar – but not the same as – cryptocurrency, these provide investors a digital certificate of ownership to a real-world or intangible item, managed on a blockchain.
