The defender never played a minute of first team football under Brendan Rodgers after arriving at Celtic as a free agent from Vissel Kobe in January 2023.

His arrival resulted in Celtic cancelling the loan deal for Moritz Jenz with Kobayashi the back up option to the established Carl Starfelt and Cameron Cart

er-Vickers partnership.Physicality always seemed an issue, playing in the post split fixtures at Ibrox and Easter Road in May 2023 proved to be the end of the road for the 23-year-old with Tomoki Iwata dropped into defence for the final two matches of the season.

Tonight Portuguese publisher O-Jogo reports:

The transfer market is booming at Portimonense, which has secured three more signings in the last few hours: Japanese defender Yuki Kobayashi, Portuguese midfielder Nuno Campos and Angolan forward Chico Banza. This trio succeeds Brazilian centre-back Jefferson, who has already arrived in the Algarve and has been immediately under the command of Sérgio Vieira.

The main new signing is the 24-year-old Japanese international Kobayashi, who used to play for Celtic – either as a centre-back or on the left – and has signed a four-year deal and is now in Portugal. Nuno Campos, 31, is a right winger who has terminated his contract with Torreense and is joining for one season, while Chico Banza, 25, an Angolan international, is on loan from Cypriot side Anorthosis, in what is a return to Portuguese football, where he previously played for Leixões and Marítimo.

How many signings will Celtic make in the last 10 days of the Transfer Window
