The future of Rangers captain James Tavernier has been a hot topic of discussion over the excruciating two weeks of the international break.

Gers fans have had to wallow in misery following a rude awakening at Celtic Park, where Philippe Clement’s new-look squad were swatted aside by our Old Firm rivals.

It was a painful reminder of the endemic failure of the last three seasons at Ibrox and as fans have begun digesting what’s been a disastrous summer, James Tavernier has found himself at the centre.

As tensions boiled over come the full-time whistle at Celtic Park, fans rushed to Ibrox with one solitary supporter targeting Tav in a moment off disgrace as the captain left the stadium.

It’s led to plenty of chatter surrounding Tav’s future, but the latest clip from the official Rangers media team suggests any exit talk is extremely short-lived.

James Tavernier spotted at Rangers Training Centre

The story goes that James Tavernier has told his agents he wants to move on from Rangers following this latest bust-up.

Rangers fans have taken aim at the legacy of the club’s former leadership group, which has routinely stumbled in the face of Celtic’s domestic supremacy.

John Lundstram, Borna Barisic, Ryan Jack, Kemar Roofe and Connor Goldson have all moved on – amongst several others – to completely alter the dressing room dynamic.

From the old guard, only James Tavernier and Leon Balogun remain, with a stuttering Jack Butland also amongst the club’s senior stars.

Despite the Scottish transfer window being closed, there are claims that Turkish side Besiktas are interested in reuniting former Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst with his former Ibrox captain.

With the window in Turkey set to close on Friday, the notion Rangers would let such an influential player leave at such a crucial juncture of the season in the wake of an Old Firm defeat feels reactionary and unhelpful.

And so we believe it will prove, as James Tavernier is clipped at the Rangers Training Centre as part of a promotion for EAFC25 alongside Jack Butland and Robin Pröpper.

Ibrox skipper a man of many talents

Rangers captain James Tavernier is routinely named as the Ibrox side’s highest-ranked player on the EAFC series, which was formerly known as FIFA.

This season that is no different too, with Tav topping the tree with a rating of 78, Jack Butland second with a rating of 77 and Robin Pröpper third with a rating of 76.

All three players were spotted being put through their paces and enjoying a series of mini-training ground games as part of the game’s promotion.

Rangers are official partners with EA and have been since August 2022.

What this means in effect is that the entire Rangers team are subject to facial mapping whilst the famous Ibrox Stadium is also included in the game.

The 16 minute clip doesn’t give too much away surrounding Tavernier’s future, but given the captain’s very public role in it we’ll take it as an indication that he isn’t going anywhere.

Interestingly, the Rangers skipper also revealed to Jack Butland in the clip that whilst he spent time training as a striker, James Tavernier also spent a year between the sticks as a goalie.

“Actually, know when I said I started up front?” Tavernier said. “I did spend a season in nets as well.”
