SAD NEWS: Jesse Marsch confirmed the sudden retirement of two of his Star players.
The spotlight is already on Jayden Bogle after his arrival at Leeds United following his £5m move from Sheffield United in the summer, and Neil Redfearn has spotted a problem.
Bogle, 24, has started all four games for Leeds in the Championship this season. It comes off the back of a solid campaign in the Premier League with Sheffield United despite their relegation to the second tier.
But he has made a difficult start to life at Leeds. It was Bogle that conceded a penalty in injury time on the opening day against Portsmouth, struggling as a sub against Boro and defensively rash at West Brom.
Indeed, Bogle got a yellow card early on, jumping into a tackle. Bogle has not been at his best in the first few games of his Leeds career and while he remains first choice, Isaac Schmidt now presents competition.
Redfearn critical of new Leeds signing Bogle after four games
Against Hull on Saturday, Leeds kept a third clean sheet and Daniel Farke will point to that defensive solidity if asked about Bogle’s struggles. But, Bogle was inconsistent again against Hull on Saturday.
If Hull were a threat under new boss Tim Walter, it was through new signing Liam Millar. Canada star Millar was linked with Leeds and he came close to scoring from Hull’s left, getting the better of Bogle.
Redfearn told BBC Radio Leeds: “He’s a steady eddie. He doesn’t set anything alight if I’m honest. At times he gets done on the wrong side, his distances. That can be down to his centre-back, they organise you.
“His in-possession stuff is hit and miss. Needs consistency, he’s played at a higher level won promotion, played in the Premier League. Well-thought of, but everything under scrutiny. Needs to get to that level.”
Why Daniel Farke was ‘furious’ with Bogle against Hull
Bogle’s lack of tactical understanding infuriated Farke on Saturday and the Leeds manager let him know during the win over Hull, when Bogle failed to pull wide to receive the ball from centre-back Joe Rodon.
However, a few moments later, Bogle showed he is ready to listen and try to improve. He heeded Farke’s demands to receive the ball wider and Farke applauded him. Bogle is under the microscope right now.
The international break has probably come at the right time for Bogle, he needs to take a breather after a breathless start to the campaign. With Burnley up next, Bogle can calm down and rediscover his best.
