Ricky Foster faces an SFA charge

Ricky Foster has been charged by the Scottish FA after he accused the governing body of “LIES” after Rangers’ clash with St Johnstone.

The former Ibrox and Aberdeen defender was perplexed by the decision from referee Matthew MacDermid to allow Cyriel Dessers’ strike in the recent game at Hampden. After an SFA explanation was read live on BBC, Foster insisted it was a lie after he claims to have heard the whistle blow twice for a foul in the build-up.

He said at the time: “Lies! It’s a lie. Unless he puts the whistle to his mouth for no reason.”

But now he’s been hit with a charge of “A recognised football body, club, official, team official, other member of team staff, player, match official or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall, at all times, act in the best interests of Association Football. Furthermore such person or body shall not act in any manner which is improper or use any one, or a combination of, violent conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour.”

It comes as he works for Motherwell’s academy and he’ll face the outcome on September 11.

The pundit expressed regret live on air last weekend at his outburst as he attempted to contextualise the issue. “I don’t think the issue is my take on the incident, my issue is what I said, which I shouldn’t have implied that there was anything going on with the SFA statement.

“At the time I was probably more a football fan than a pundit and I used the wrong choice of words and got caught up in the excitement of what was happening.

“But the goal should stand, the decision itself to award the foul would have been wrong anyway and I think they got the right decision which is the most important thing. I wish I hadn’t said it but I did.”
