DARREN O’DEA is on Raith Rovers’ wanted list as they hunt for a new manager.

Astonishingly, the Fifers sacked boss Ian Murray after just one Championship game of the season following their 1-0 loss to Airdrie at the weekend.

They have launched a bid to get a quickfire replacement for the former Hibs and Rangers defender and they have turned their attention to O’Dea who recently took on the role as Celtic’s new professional player pathway manager.

The ex-Republic of Ireland international earned high praise as Hoops’ B team gaffer before his promotion to another crucial backroom capacity.

IRISH EYES ARE SMILING…Aiden McGeady and Darren O’Dea with the newly-won League Cup.

O’Dea is charged with looking for loan opportunities for some of the club’s prospects to offer game-time elsewhere while broadening their scope.

The Stark’s Park bosses have been alerted to the good work of the one-time centre-back club chief Andy Barrowman admitted they have compiled a shortlist of candidates to take over from the axed Murray.

Kevin Thomson, Tam Courts and Rhys McCabe have also been linked with the post, but O’Dea has emerged as a strong contender, according to a report in the Scottish Sun.

However, it is also unlikely the job will appeal to the 37-year-old Dubliner who is said to be relishing his new task at the champions.

One of O’Dea’s claims as a Celtic player was his starring role in the 2-0 League Cup Final triumph over Rangers at Hampden in March 2009 when he headed in the opening goal in extra-time.

Fellow-Irish international Aiden McGeady made certain with an impeccable penalty-kick.
