SAD NEWS: Celtic set to miss out on defensive transfer target

seems that the name of Hugo Bueno can be discounted as a potential Celtic signing with the defender poised to join Feyenoord on a season long loan.

The Wolves left-back was linked with Celtic in January without any business being concluded, Greg Taylor remains the only left back at the club and is now into the final year of his contract.

Speculation linking Celtic with Bueno has surfaced again in recent weeks but faced with a similar dilemma Feyenoord have moved quickly to sign up a left-back to provide cover and competition.

Feyenoord and Wolverhampton Wanderers have reached an agreement: Hugo Bueno will be loaned to De Kuip. With the 21-year-old Spaniard, Brian Priske has secured the replacement for Quilindschy Hartman, who is recovering from a serious knee injury.

Bueno must bridge the period until Hartman is fit again and at the same time compete with Gijs Smal. This left back came over on a free transfer from FC Twente, got injured during the preparation, but is now fit again.

For Marcos López, the arrival of Bueno means that he can look forward to a new club. The Peruvian international was the only specialized left wing defender during the preparation. Last Sunday, he won the final of the Johan Cruijff Shield with Feyenoord against PSV.

Coach Brian Priske is happy with the upcoming arrival of Bueno. He already pointed out during the press conference this afternoon that Feyenoord needs reinforcements , after the departure of Mats Wieffer and Yankuba Minteh (both Brighton & Hove Albion).

Owen Beck of Liverpool was also linked with the Celtic left-back position in January with those links recently revived.

Matthew Anderson was involved in Celtic’s pre-season friendlies alongside Taylor but failed to make the bench for the 4-0 win over Kilmarnock as Taylor put in a full 90 plus minutes, liam Scales and Tony Ralston have played at left-back.
