Si Ferry has been left “gobsmacked” by a new Rabbi Matondo revelation out of Rangers ahead of the transfer deadline.

The Light Blues attacker has been linked with a move away from Ibrox during the summer transfer window, with reports suggesting Blackburn Rovers are the latest club interested in his services [Daily Mail, 22 August].

While an exit doesn’t appear to be imminent at this stage, Open Goal presenter Si Ferry has been left shocked after Derek Ferguson revealed the winger earns a supposed £34,000-a-week in Glasgow.

Speaking on the Open Goal YouTube channel (22 August, 41:44) Ferguson said: “What is it, we know Matondo is on £34,000 and he’s a bit part player.”

Ferry replied: “Is he? Matondo is on £34,000-a-week? I am gobsmacked by that. I genuinely thought he’d be on £2,000-a-week, £6,000 or £7,

000 maybe.” Keith Wyness: Celtic set for ‘better than expected’ payout after Rangers catastrophe

Will Rabbi Matondo exit Rangers amid Ibrox transfer rumours?

While it won’t come as a shock to Rangers supporters to hear that even their bit-part players are on massive wages, this latest revelation shows exactly what is wrong with the current set-up at Ibrox.

Players like Matondo, Todd Cantwell and even Ianis Hagi are on wages that they simply would not get if they were at any other club, which makes it incredibly hard to move them on when they become surplus to requirements in Glasgow.Matondo does complete a move to the Championship with Blackburn, he will earn nowhere near that sort of money so the Light Blues are relying on players accepting a massive wage cut to move away from Rangers.
