Joining from Nottingham Forest as part of a PSR deal that saw Elliot Anderson go in the other direction, Odysseas Vlachodimos’ arrival was always a strange one.

Six weeks on from his surprise move from the City Ground, Alan Nixon is reporting that the Greek international could leave Newcastle United on loan.

Originally rumoured to have joined Newcastle for “a small fee”, it later was revealed that Vlachodimos actually joined for a fee closer to £20m, ensuring Forest helped us out with Anderson and both clubs avoided any breach.

It was definitely a ‘PSR deal’ and most fans have now realised that Vlachodimos was never really intended to be some long-term number two to Nick Pope.

His reveal video looked like a new Love Island guest reveal, but done at gunpoint. Vlachodimos had no big interview, first day at training video or any real fanfare. He played a handful of minutes in pre-season and wasn’t even in the matchday squad on the opening day. With Howe instead deciding to go with Dubravka, the player Vlachodimos was supposed to be replacing.

So it seems Vlachodimos will now head out on loan, we assume just so Newcastle can cover his wages and be done with it. With Dubravka still expected to leave, Newcastle will likely then reignite their interest in Burnley keeper James Trafford. Who, conveniently was “ill” yesterday during Burnley’s 5-0 victory against Cardiff.
