The next transfer that the Celtic fans are expecting to get done soon is that of Portuguese midfielder, Paulo Bernardo.

 

The 22-year-old is said to have agreed terms with Celtic after Benfica accepted an offer for the player to make him a permanent Bhoy this summer.

Bernardo made 33 appearances last season for Celtic and scored a big goal against Rangers as well as creating an assist for Adam Idah’s winner against them in the Scottish Cup final.

 

Now set to become a permanent member of the Celtic first team, Anthony Joseph has shared details of the deal Bernardo has been offered to tempt him to make the permanent switch to Glasgow.

Although nothing has been announced by the club yet despite reports suggesting that terms have been agreed, the Sky Sports journalist says Celtic are confident that they will get their man after structuring a deal that would match what Bernardo was on a

t Benfica.

Joseph said [Celtic Unrestricted View podcast], “Everything with Benfica is agreed. Now they need to agree on personal terms and this was not straightforward because he’s on a decent salary at Benfica nearly £20,000 a week.

 

“The offer that’s been put to him is on my understanding is that a four-year deal with a salary that’s slightly less but an appearance fee and appearance bonus, that would bring it up to near that figure. Reasons to be hopeful after another Champions League…

“So that would sort of bridge that gap and that’s what’s under consideration from Bernardo at the moment.

 

“My understanding is that Celtic are quite confident of that situation being agreed.”

 

That’s a very good deal for both the player and Celtic. Brendan Rodgers is getting a player who he knows can handle the pressure of playing for the Parkhead club and Bernardo is set to be paid well for doing so.

 

Hopefully it won’t be too long until we see the Portuguese holding the green and white scarf above his head and Rodgers can then move onto other positions in the t

eam that require strengthening this summer.
