Celtic are looking to strengthen their squad further this summer and it looks like midfield remains an area of focus despite the addition of Paulo Bernardo on a permanent basis from Benfica following a solid loan spell. One has to wonder whether this is directly linked with the future of Matt O’Riley, who has been linked with pretty much every club in Europe so far in this window.

One such player, who appears to be on the radar of Celtic, is Hannibal Mejbri of Manchester United. Coming through the youth ranks, he was considered one of their brightest prospects but life at the senior level has not exactly gone according to expectations.

Mejbri has made fewer appearances for Manchester United than he has for the Tunisian national team. Something needs to change for his career to take off and a move away from Old Trafford would not be the worst idea.

As reported by Football Insider, Celtic are plotting to overtake Rangers’ deal for the Manchester United midfielder. Mejbri is said to be keen on a move to either of the Glasgow clubs as they both offer the opportunity to play European football.

Mejbri would fit the profile of player Celtic have been targeting in recent years perfectly. He is a youngster with a big reputation and a lot of room for growth. Exactly what the Hoops like.

It remains to be seen whether Celtic end up making a move for Mejbri or not. It is important to weigh up the risks associated with a move for him as well.

Mejbri is a phenomenal talent for sure but things have not worked out for him at the senior level, not just at Manchester United but out on loan too. If Celtic were to sign him, it would be important to make sure it is on their terms.

Hannibal Mejbri has been heavily linked with a Manchester United exit this summer. While coming up through the academy ranks at the club, he was one of the highest rated talents around. His transition to the senior game has not proven to be a smooth one though and he might in need of a change of scenery to truly get his career going. Interestingly, both Celtic and the Rangers are believed to hold an interest in him.

Mejbri has not played much football for Manchester United at the senior level. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Sevilla and the Spanish club were believed to have a buyout option included in the deal.

Mejbri did not feature much for Sevilla though. No permanent transfer followed. As a result, there are question marks over his future again, especially with his current deal at Manchester United believed to run out next summer.

Both Celtic and the Rangers have been linked with the Manchester United youngster in recent times. Could the two Glasgow giants end up competing for his signature this summer?

Amid all this, Fabrizio Romano has given an update on the situation of Mejbri and Manchester United. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said:

“Yes, there was an interest. It’s true, but Man United are only interested in permanent transfer.”

So, it looks like Manchester United are only looking for a permanent transfer in case Mejbri was to leave. It remains unclear what kind of a fee they would seek in order to make it happen.

Someone like Mejbri could be a decent addition for Celtic. But hopefully, he is not someone the club are viewing as a potential replacement for Matt O’Riley. The Manchester United youngster is a good talent for sure but he is completely unproven at the top level.

Celtic have been linked with quite a few midfielders in recent times despite signing Paulo Bernardo on a permanent basis from Benfica after a solid loan spell at Parkhead last season. One has to wonder whether the club are preparing for life after Matt O’Riley, with the Danish international being linked with teams like Chelsea, Juventus, Atalanta and many others.

One of the midfielders Celtic have been linked with this summer is Hannibal Mejbri of Manchester United. While coming through the ranks at the English club, he was one of their most highly-rated prospects, but things have not gone smoothly at the senior level.

So far, Mejbri has made less appearances for Manchester United than he has for the Tunisia national team. His loan spell at Sevilla did not prove to be a success either.

It might be time for a change in scenery for Mejbri as he seems to be tired of sitting on the bench. As reported by The National, he said:

“As a footballer, I just want to play and show myself. Every player will say the same. I’m tired of sitting on a bench watching others play.”

The success of someone like O’Riley should convince players like Mejbri about the rewards that performing at Celtic could bring. Just two-and-a-half years ago, the Danish international was playing in the third tier of English football and now he is wanted by some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Of course, Mejbri is yet to prove himself at the top level even though he showed a ton of potential while coming up through the youth ranks. So, there would be a certain amount of risk involved in a move for him for sure.

Celtic are not the only Scottish club to be linked with Mejbri either. It has been suggested that the Rangers hold an interest in him as well. Let’s wait and see what the future holds for the Manchester United youngster.
