Journalist says Celtic have now made an offer for French midfield talent

Journalist says Celtic have now made an offer for French midfield talent.

Celtic have reportedly submitted an offer for a midfielder as they continue to probe the market for reinforcements.

Brendan Rodgers has made it known that he wants two players added to the engine room should Matt O’Riley depart for Brighton & Hove Albion.

Lausanne-Sport star Alvyn Sanches and Augsburg’s Arne Engels are mooted to be in the frame, but the transfer window can move swiftly when potential exits hasten the need for new arrivals.

Dundee captain Luke McCowan has also been monitored by the Bhoys and is said to be available for £1 million. Nevertheless, Celtic are still yet to add another option in the middle of the park before the deadline.

Nevertheless, developments have now suggested that they have submitted an offer for a new talent that appears to have cropped onto their radar.

Celtic submit Mahamadou Diawara offer – journalist

According to journalist Nabil Djellit on his official X account, Celtic have submitted an ‘offer’ for Lyon midfield talent Mahamadou Diawara.

He stated (translated via DeepL): “Short of playing time at OL, Mahamadou Diawara has received an offer from Glasgow Celtic, who have qualified for the UEFA Champions League. Other clubs are interested in the 19-year-old midfielder, including L1 clubs Nantes, Lens and others.”

Per Djellit, Celtic could face competition for his signature, with Nantes, Lens and other clubs keen to reach the front of the queue.

The France Under-19 international made 12 appearances in all competitions last term at senior level and has enjoyed one outing this season against Stade Rennais as a substitute.

Formerly of Paris Saint-Germain’s youth academy, the 19-year-old midfielder would fit the Bhoys’ transfer model. However, with four years left to run on his current contract, it remains to be seen how much he could cost.

Either way, he hasn’t played an awful lot of regular football at Lyon, so Celtic could potentially be an environment for him to continue his career development should further updates come to fruition.

They’ve taken their time but Rangers are finally getting the ball rolling on stadium works needed to restore away derby ticket allocations to reasonable levels.

Over the summer, Celtic spent money on upgrades at Celtic Park to better enhance the matchday experience for away Rangers fans at derby matches, which was to be reciprocated across the city.

It was part of an agreement with the Ibrox side and the SPFL to allow around 5% of away supporters into the ground when Celtic and Rangers play, after years of severely reduced numbers.

Rangers failed to uphold their end of the bargain and couldn’t give Celtic guarantees they would complete the work in time for the second derby of the season around New Year.

As a result, Celtic decided to not give any Rangers supporters tickets for next week’s match between the two clubs at Celtic Park. Brendan Rodgers brilliantly skewered them in a media conference, making it clear where the blame lay.

Rangers get going on stadium work needed for Celtic matches

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Rangers have now finally lodged planning permission for the erection of nets at Ibrox – part of the safety measures required to get thousands of Celtic fans back in their ground for derbies.

That means the work will hopefully be done well in advance of the third and fourth league meetings between the two sides in 2025 when fans are planned to be given the agreed allocations.
