GOOD NEWS: Simon Donnelly talks up Scott McKenna to Celtic as defender is yet to find new club

The Celtic fans are still waiting for Brendan Rodgers to make his third summer signing as the countdown to the new season continues.

The Celtic boss solved his Joe Hart conundrum by signing Viljami Sinisalo and Kasper Schmeichel but as yet, is still to find a backup or even challenger for Hoops duo Kyogo Furuhashi and Greg Taylor.

However, it’s neither of those positions that Simon Donnelly is speaking about as the former Celtic striker urges Brendan Rodgers to sign a defender who is currently a free agent.

Scott McKenna has been linked to Celtic in the past during Brendan Rodgers’ first tenure as manager but as far as this summer goes, the former Nottingham Forest man has not been mentioned as a name connected with a move to Paradise.

But that hasn’t stopped Donnelly from telling his old club to make a move for the Scotland defender who is still without a club despite starring in Euro 2024 for Steve Clarke’s side.

Donnelly said [Superscoreboard], “I think he’d be a good signing. He’s obviously been linked with both Celtic and Rangers in recent times and I think that’s a position where I think Brendan will certainly be looking to strengthen and left back.

“Scales was in there last year and did so well. But I think they want to go and put another couple of players in those positions. But I think McKenna would be a good one.

“I think he knows the league. He’s been down south and he’s done reasonably well down there.

“He’s been in and around the international set-up. I think he’d be a decent addition to Celtic.”

According to Hull Live, the Championship club has held ‘positive talks’ with McKenna about a possible move to The Tigers as they launch an ‘ambitious’ bid to land the experienced defender.
