GOOD NEWS: Rangers learn Champions League Playoff fate as UEFA confirm £3.7m payment blow

Rangers fans know that the club has a tough Champions League test with Dynamo Kiev to overcome before they can worry about the Playoff.

But as if to add extra spice to the Champions League QR3 ties, UEFA have decided to draw the lots for the final round of qualifying before this stage is even complete.

Rangers headed into this morning’s draw in Nyon know they would face one of either FC Salzburg/FC Twente or Lille/Fenerbahce.

It’s an ominous prospect for Rangers should they get past their Ukrainian foes in QR3 after Dynamo Kiev routinely dispatched Serbian side Partizan Belgrade in QR2.

But at least now Philippe Clement knows what lies in wait should Rangers get past the challenge of Dynamo Kiev.

Whilst Rangers have to overcome Dynamo Kiev, a tie against RB Salzburg or FC Twente lies in wait at the Champions League Playoff stage.

The Rangers/Dynamo Kiev pairing came out the hat first, so Rangers will play at home (or Hampden) in the first leg should they reach that stage of the tournament.

The first leg will be played on the 20/21st of August with the return in either the Netherlands or Austria the following week on the 27/28th.

It means Rangers face a second leg trip out to Europe the week before they head to Celtic Park for the first Old Firm derby of the season on the 1st of September.

Rangers have also signed FC Twente captain Robin Pröpper in a potential quick reunion for the defender.

This is also regarded as the better of the two draw outcomes, with Rangers avoiding Ligue 1 Lille or Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce at the Playoff stage.

Rangers fans will also note that should they get past Dynamo Kiev then there’s a bonus for reaching the Playoff.

Whilst qualification for the revamped Champions League could be worth us.
