Rangers’ striker berth has been a major conversation amongst supporters this transfer window.

The Gers, like most of modern football, have a adopted a one-striker system but even then the club has been found wanting for several years in the ‘number nine’ department.

Not since the heady days of 2020/21 – conversely when Rangers last won the Scottish Premiership title – have the club looked well-stocked up top.

Back then Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe, Jermain Defoe and Cedric Itten proved a potent enough combination to deliver 55.

Fast forward three years and amid injuries and woeful squad management Rangers’ frontmen remain the subject of continuing scrutiny at Ibrox.

But as Brazilian striker Danilo urges patience with regards his return from injury, another hitman taking his time at Ibrox continues to take positive steps forward.

Rangers’ transfer budget isn’t exactly swelling this summer.

MORE RANGERS STORIES

The club have faced a season of downsizing, with the Gers moving away from overpaid, overrated, underperforming British veterans towards a global, youthful, hungry, winning squad.

It’s not a transition which has gone smoothly to date.

With Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers determined to prove his worth at Ibrox, the club is not prioritising the position as they penny pinch this August.

And as the aforementioned Danilo continues to rebuild his fitness, there are hopes the £6m striker will prove he has what it takes in Glasgow.

The final first-team choice has drawn some scrutiny with Rangers splashing £1.7m to bring the unproven Hamza Igamane to the club from FAR Rabat in Morocco.

Only for Philippe Clement to tell fans that he will be taking his time to introduce Igamane to the first-team.

Now joining in some training sessions with the rest of the squad, the 21-year-old Moroccan talent has taken to Instagram to provide an update on his Auchenhowie progress.

Philippe Clement insists Rangers ‘will need’ striker soon

Rangers manager Philippe Clement certainly believes in the talents of Hamza Igamane.

But the Belgian boss has repeatedly told supporters that the striker needs time to adjust to the standard of Ibrox training and life in what has been a miserable summer in Scotland.

Those overbearing blocks of grey are certainly different from the Atlas Mountains.

All things considered, Clement has hinted that Rangers have a date for introducing the kid to the team with the club focused on getting him up to speed first.

With the season a marathon and not a sprint, Rangers fans can expect to see Hamza Igamane begin to influence the first-team before the turn of the year.

“If you see our programme for September, October, November, December, we will need rotation in the squad,” Clement said following the 2-0 win over St Johnstone.

“So we need a lot of players available in that way. Hamza Igamane is also making good steps.

“So I hope the next couple of months to also count on him in moments to play that role. That’s what you need if you want to be competitive in four competitions.”
