Breaking News:Rangers are WEAKER than last season ahead of Hearts curtain-raiser
Philippe Clement believes his Rangers squad is currently WEAKER compared to the team that ended last season.
Clement has performed major surgery on his squad over the summer, shipping out veterans including Connor Goldson, John Lundstram and Kemar Roofe, while adding nine new faces to the ranks. However, the Ibrox boss has handed out just one competitive debut for today’s Premiership curtain-raiser at Tynecastle, with ex-Aberdeen starlet Connor Barron getting the nod in midfield.
Last season’s loan stars Mohamed Diomande and Oscar Cortes also start but Clement has made it clear the club must do more business before the window shuts on August 30.
Speaking ahead of the clash with Hearts, he BBC Scotland: “It feels like ages ago that we had a competitive game. I’m looking forward to the new season. This is the start of our marathon. You want to win everything. I want players who want to win every game. That is where we put the bar and we’ll go hard for that.
“I believe in the players we’re signing, in the things we’re doing, the recruitment as well, which is not just short-term any more. The squad now is probably not better than it was at the end of the season but we are working on it to make it better.”
