BREAKING NEWS:Philippe Clement has confirmed the departure of Cyriel Dessers

Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie is on the verge of signing for fellow Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock, according to The Scottish Sun.

The newspaper reported via its website on Monday (8 July) that, with just a year remaining on his contract at Ibrox, the 26-year-old is close to signing a two-year deal at Rugby Park.

It is understood that despite flying with Philippe Clement to The Netherlands on Sunday 7 July, Killie hope to complete talks in the next 24 hours and add McCrorie to their squad this summer.

Robby McCrorie set to depart Rangers in new transfer

The 26-year-old still has a lot to prove on the football pitch, having only made seven senior appearances for the Gers since breaking through into the first team.

McCrorie has often been sent out on loan instead, facing spells away with Berwick Rangers, Greenock Morton, Queen of South and Livingston, giving him no chance to develop with the Gers.

With Jack Butland showing little signs of leaving this summer, and the addition of Liam Kelly to the squad, McCrorie is only set to be pushed further down the pecking order and away from any first-team opportunities.

The move makes sense for both parties, with the shot-stopper set to gain some valuable minutes on the pitch and stake his claim in the Scotland national team, where he has yet to make his debut.

It is clear that the ‘keeper is a talented player, with multiple teams in the division keeping tabs on his current situation at Ibrox and Kilmarnock look set to take advantage of his lack of game time.

It will come as a shame to some fans to see a homegrown player depart the club this summer, but with Clement’s rebuild in full swing, few players are safe from the transfer market.

With Hamza Igamane, Connor Barron, Clinton Nsiala and Oscar Cortes all being signed so far, Rangers’ starting XI could look quite different before the 2024/25 campaign kicks off.

In other Rangers news, an Ibrox-linked player is expected to pass his medical at the club despite an intense injury recently.
