BREAKING NEWS: He is finally back
Fabrizio Romano says attacker is now set for £32m transfer after rejecting Newcastle United offer
Newcastle United’s search for a new right winger continues.
The transfer window closes on August 30th, yet Newcastle United have still not signed a centre-back or a winger, which were their two main priorities heading into this summer.
But while the Marc Guehi deal rumbles on, it is still unclear who the Magpies could bring in to enhance Eddie Howe’s attacking options.
It has been reported that Newcastle are ‘actively looking’ for a winger ahead of deadline day, but their options appear to be dwindling.
Number one target Michael Olise went elsewhere a long time ago, while Jarrod Bowen has also proven to be beyond Newcastle’s reach. Elsewhere, Pedro Neto has signed for Chelsea despite interest from the Magpies.
Nico Gonzalez set to sign for Juventus after Newcastle approach
And now another player on Newcastle’s radar is set to become unavailable, as Nico Gonzalez closes in on a move from Fiorentina to Juventus.
Newcastle United had been interested in signing Gonzalez, and even made a move to bring him to St James’ Park.
However, Geordie Boot Boys were recently told that Gonzalez turned down an offer from Newcastle, as he looks set to continue his career in Italy.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who has provided details of the 26-year-old getting set to sign for Juventus for £32million.
Romano posted on X on Saturday evening: “Nico González to Juventus, here we go! Green light from the clubs to travel tonight for medical tests. €38m package agreed with Fiorentina, long term deal for Nico who only wanted Juventus. Nico González + Francisco Conceição, both deals are done.”
The transfer expert has since stated that Gonzalez will undergo his Juventus medical in Turin today (Sunday, August 25th).
Newcastle need an ace up their sleeve before transfer window closes on Friday
Gonzalez is another name that Newcastle can cross off their list of possible signings. He has had his heart set on a move to Juventus, and will be wearing their black and white stripes rather than Newcastle’s.
That is a shame, as he is an outstanding player. And at £32million, he would not have been out of the Magpies’ reach, as they continue to target a club record deal for Marc Guehi.
But Toon officials will be looking elsewhere, and are very much in a race against time to enhance Eddie Howe’s attacking options before the transfer window closes.
Hopefully Paul Mitchell has an ace up his sleeve, but it looks highly unlikely that a marquee winger will be arriving at St James’ Park. That is a big shock, as it had been expected at the start of the summer that most of Newcastle’s budget would go towards a right-sided attacker.
Instead, Toon fans are eagerly waiting to see who the club target in the final few days of the summer transfer window. Talk about leaving it late…
The only option out there for Newcastle appears to be Noni Madueke, who has been linked with swapping Stamford Bridge for St James’ Park. However, Enzo Maresca’s latest comments about Madueke suggest he might not be a good fit for Newcastle.
