Brendan Rodgers will be keen to strengthen the Celtic forward line between now and the end of the window in late August.

Kyogo Furuhashi is the only recognised centre-forward on the books at Parkhead, albeit he has registered an impressive tally of six goals in pre-season.

With talks dragging on involving Norwich City over a potential return to Celtic for Adam Idah, it appears unlikely there will be a secondary option on the bench when the Bhoys take on Kilmarnock in their Scottish Premiership opener this Sunday.

Intriguingly, reports also emerged earlier today, revealing that the club is interested in Columbus Crew forward Jacen Russell-Rowe, an international teammate of Alistair Johnston.

In light of this, now seems like the right time to re-visit some intriguing comments Rodgers made after Rocco Vata departed for Watford earlier in the month.

What Brendan Rodgers said about Celtic striking department

Rodgers admitted that Vata had been offered a role vying for one of the striking slots at Celtic, with three forwards competing for places the desired number for the Irishman.

He explained: “Rocco was offered it, and he was told that he was going to be one of the three strikers at Celtic. He decided that it wasn’t going to be for him. So he then left Celtic. That is abso­lutely fine, and we wish him all the very best.”

67 Hail Hail has already touched on this wish; however, could this be the start of a plan of action? Russell-Rowe is 21 years old, a fully-fledged Canadian international, and someone Rodgers could rely on to provide versatility across the front few positions.

He has netted five times and registered one goal in 20 appearances this term for Columbus Crew and has the potential to push Furuhashi (and potentially Idah) for minutes in the side [Transfermarkt], Celtic play with one central striker, ideally creating scope for a trio of frontmen.
