‘Textor is dead set on landing Everton and that would put huge pressure on boss Sean Dyche who kept the club up under difficult circumstances last season but has got off to a poor start this time.

‘Highly rated Paolo Fonseca, another Portuguese coach, is also fancied by Textor but would be difficult to attract from AC Milan.

‘Textor has had his critics but seems a good judge of a manager. He was the driving force behind the appointment of Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace.’

Who is Everton target Abel Ferreira?

Having spent his entire career within the Portuguese leagues, the former full-back is unlikely to be a name that is familiar to many.

However, he did spend five long years with Sporting CP before being forced into an early retirement due to unrelenting injury issues.

That is what has given him the edge over some other managers, with the 45-year-old having then jumped straight into coaching.

Starting with some youth sides and the B teams of Sporting and Braga, eventually he earned his first big break with the latter’s first-team, spending two years there before moving to PAOK in Greece.

His exploits have since led him to Brazil, where he has been impressing since 2020 at Palmeiras winning three trophies there.

With a current contract due to expire in 2025, aligning with the conclusion of Dyche’s current deal, Textor might be able to make a simple, cut-price managerial swap to get his man.

National media react to £55k-a-week Everton player who ‘struggled’ for his country

Everton fans will have, for once, welcomed this international break, as a much-needed hiatus from the stresses surrounding Goodison Park.

It has been a tough start to the season for the Toffees, and having failed to win a Premier League match yet, pressure on Sean Dyche’s future has intensified.

The former Burnley boss has worked wonders in guiding this team to safety twice now, but after this latest poor run of form, questions have been asked about his ability to continue leading them to such success again.

However, it’s worth noting that very few managers would be able to get a tune out of this squad, especially with all the off-pitch issues plaguing them.

The international break should have allowed Everton players to leave Goodison Park and express themselves free from the pressures of relegation turmoil.

Alas, some are struggling to do so.

How Seamus Coleman played in Ireland vs England

Seamus Coleman is one such example, who endured a torrid afternoon in Ireland as his side faced England.

A 2-0 home loss was just the tip of the iceberg for his side, who actually saw two former Republic of Ireland youth players, Declan Rice and Jack Grealish, net the goals.

To add insult to injury, their captain was tormented all match before his eventual substitution, brought on by injury.

Both The Times and The Daily Mail handed the £55k-a-week defender a 5/10 rating, whilst The Irish Mirror wrote: ‘While he continued to lead the team with passion and pride, he really struggled against the pace of Gordon.’

90min echoed this sentiment: ‘Struggled to cope with the movement of Gordon and Grealish before coming off injured before the hour mark.’

Everton’s right-back problems further reinforced

Whether it be because of his perceived poor performance or the fact that he hobbled off injured, last night only reinforced Everton’s right-back problems.

It’s a huge area of fear for most Evertonians, who argue that the lack of depth and quality in that area has been clear for so long now.

And yet, another summer has just gone by without it being addressed, leaving a 35-year-old Coleman and a 39-year-old Ashley Young to battle it out for the starting spot.

Nathan Patterson marks another option, but the young Scotsman remains inexplicably unfavored by Sean Dyche which only further limits their options in that position.

A lack of dynamism and speed is an issue that plagues the entire backline, with right-back no exception.

Coleman’s latest injury and poor performance do not look good for his chances of solving the defensive issues Everton have faced early on in this season, shipping ten goals in their opening three Premier League matches.
