Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso has taunted Juventus after they sold Federico Chiesa to Liverpool in a deal worth up to £12m. The Italian, who has a year left on his contract, was deemed surplus to requirements in Turin by new manager Thiago Motta.

The Euro 2020 winner made his name at Fiorentina, returning 34 goals and 26 assists from 153 appearances for the club before joining Juventus in a deal worth up to €60m after two years on loan. However, an ACL injury suffered in January 2022 derailed his progress with the Old Lady.

But that wasn’t enough to extend his stay at Juventus following Motta’s arrival, with his new manager quickly deciding the forward wasn’t part of his plans.

With Liverpool’s own admiration for Chiesa dating back to his breakthrough with Fiorentina, they snapped up the Italian for a bargain initial fee of just £10m to bolster Arne Slot’s attacking options late last month.

And having sold the forward to Juventus in the first place, Commisso has mocked the Serie A giants’ transfer business following their initial €60m outlay.

“Well, what should I do if they (Juventus) are the only team that comes with the money?” he told Gazetta dello Sport, having also sold Dusan Vlahovic and Nico Gonzalez to Juventus in recent years.

“We made a great deal with Vlahovic, the most important in my five years. And look at Chiesa: I read that he joined Liverpool for €12m. I had sold him for nearly €60m. Who did good business there, the others or Rocco?
