Everton close to reaching agreement with Dele Alli

Everton are close to reaching an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to sign Dele Alli.

According to a report from The Athletic, the Toffees are looking at a revised payment structure for the 28-year-old attacker.

The England attacking midfielder is a free agent after his Everton contract expired last month. However, the Toffees want him back at Goodison Park as Sean Dyche feels he can still get the best out of Alli.

Alli initially joined Everton, signed by Frank Lampard in the January window of 2022. As a part of the deal, the north London club would receive a significant fee if he pens a new deal at Goodison Park.

The former Milton Keynes Dons midfielder is not in Ange Postecoglou’s plans and Spurs want to get rid of him as well. However, discussions are ongoing over fresh terms and conditions.

The new deal would probably ensure Spurs have a sell-on clause if Alli leaves Goodison Park for a fee in the future.

Alli missed the entire last season due to injuries but he is now fit enough to play regular football. He made only 13 appearances, and if he had played seven games more, Spurs would have received a sum of £10 million.

He has not played since August 2022 but it appears that he wants to prove a point in the next season. He is already training at Finch Farm where he continues his rehab from long-term problems.

At the moment, he doesn’t have a contract, but he hopes to impress Dyche in training. He is a vastly experienced player who has scored 94 goals in his club career. He has also played 37 times for the England national team.

Signing him for nothing and on a revised payment structure makes a lot of sense. Alli is a top-quality player but he has lost his way since 2019.
