Abdallah Sima transfer update at Ibrox as Rangers and Brighton ‘separation’ emerges

Rangers and Brighton have a “separation” in their valuations of Abdallah Sima during the summer transfer window, according to Joshua Barrie.

The Rangers Review journalist reported via the Morning Briefing (9 July, 20:55) that although the Senegal international enjoyed his stay in Glasgow, the Seagulls’ asking price is higher than the Gers want to pay.

Whether or not that price falls over the course of the transfer window will depend on what sort of interest rises from other clubs, but at the moment the Light Blues seem unable to match Brighton’s demands.

Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel, Barrie said: “Sima has one year left on his contract with the option of another year as well.

“The last I heard about it on a permanent basis was that there is a separation in what Brighton value him at compared to Rangers, but is clear that Sima really loved being here. He was vocal about that and his agent was vocal about that as well.

“It’s one of those situations where Rangers probably can’t shell out the money Brighton would want for a permanent, will that go down as the transfer window continues? That will probably depend on the interest from other clubs as well.”

Will Abdallah Sima return to Rangers in the summer transfer window at Ibrox?

It was always going to be difficult for Rangers to get this deal over the line this summer as soon as it emerged that the Seagulls were looking to test the market before selling Sima permanently.

While the player will always have some sort of say in these sorts of transfers, Brighton will likely want to sell to the highest bidder if they part ways with the forward and it is unlikely Rangers will be the side to win the race.

As Barrie suggests, that could change in the coming weeks if other clubs fail to register a genuine interest in the former Gers loanee. The less interest there is in his signature, the further Brighton’s valuation could fall.

Ultimately, Philippe Clement’s side will hope to have a real update from the Premier League side sooner rather than later so that plans can be put in place for the remainder of the window because a new winger will have to be targeted if Sima cannot be signed.
