Shocking news: Leeds united announced a new ownershipLeeds United could be about to make the Championship’s signing of the summer

Leeds United’s window so far has raised question marks against the 49ers but that could be about to change in the coming days.

After missing out on promotion last season, Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter have all been sold by Leeds and it has taken until the final week of the window for things to start moving.

Leeds had claimed in their official statement announcing Gray‘s exit that the money received for him would help keep other key players, though clearly that was not the case.

If Leeds are able to get the final few days of the window right, however, that could all quickly be forgotten.

Largie Ramazani ended the 32-day wait for a signing last week and he could be followed by as many as four new players, with Manor Solomon set to join today.

Given Leeds have generated the most amount of money in player sales across the whole of Europe this summer, it certainly looks as though they are going to be ambitious in the closing stages of the window.

A £13 million offer for Sheffield United’s Gustavo Hamer reflects that, though that is one still very much up in the air, despite reports he has agreed personal terms.

And while Hamer would be a significant coup for Leeds, it would actually be the signing of Roland Sallai which would really send out a statement of intent.

Leeds are now reportedly pushing strongly for a £7.6 million deal with Freiburg for Sallai, who is also said to be keen on the move.

At that price, there would not be a better signing in the Championship than Sallai all summer considering the pedigree he has both at club and international level.

Sallai is the exact sort of right winger/number 10 hybrid Leeds need to replace Rutter, but would also add that extra bit of experience to a young front-line.

The 27-year-old has been capped 52 times by Hungary, who are certainly no mugs on the international stage, and has been a regular at Freiburg for several seasons.

Adding him to a squad that already has Wilfried Gnonto, Ramazani, Solomon, Dan James and Brenden Aaronson would undoubtedly give Leeds the best set of attacking options in the league.

Leeds face Ligue 1 competition for Sallai

Of course, hearing reports that Leeds are now pushing hard for Sallai will leave fans excited, but it is still far from a done deal yet.

Leeds are set to face competition from an unnamed French Ligue 1 club, and top level interest is always going to be difficult to turn down.

However, if Leeds can bring in players like him, there is a good chance that in 12 months’ time he will be playing in the world’s best league.

That is the sort of pathway Leeds need to be offering these sort of players to get deals over the line.
