Rangers manager Philippe Clement ‘candidate’ for Belgium job

Rangers manager Philippe Clement is a ‘candidate’ to take charge of his country, according to Belgium legend Rene Vandereycken.

Belgium were bundled out of the Euros after a dismal campaign which saw them eventually eliminated by France in the Round of 16.

Manager Domenico Tedesco is under serious pressure after yet another Belgian flop at a major tournament

And Ibrox boss Clement’s name was mentioned on the list of possible successors as Belgium started their post-mortem from the Euros.

Former Belgium boss Vandereycken – who scored in the European Championships Final in 1980 as a player and also managed  Anderlecht, Standard Liege and Twente Enschede – put Clement’s name forward.

He said: “I’m not so much in favour of another foreign national coach.

“Many other Belgian managers are not available too.”

Clement won 38 caps for the Belgian team between 1998 and 2007 and scored one goal against Bulgaria 21 years ago.

However, Tedesco looks set to get a vote of confidence to lead Belgium into the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Former Light Blues defender, Alan Hutton, highlighted the potential signings of Bayern Munich attacker, Yusuf Kabadayi, and Moroccan youth international, Hamza Igamane, as shrewd moves by the club’s recruitment team.

Kabadayi, 20, spent last season on loan in the German second division with Schalke 04, where he found the back of the net on four occasions in 23 appearances. The young forward, who has been identified as a key target by Rangers boss, Philippe Clement, will be looking to make the step up and establish himself at Ibrox should he pen a contract.
