DEAL CONFIRM;Celtic forward exit imminent

Rocco Vata looks set to complete his exit from Celtic after an update from Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph.

The Ireland youth striker had visited Watford’s facilities and spoken with the club as his departure from the Scottish Champions edged closer.

Now, Joseph has taken to Twitter/X to confirm that the 19-year-old will undergo a medical with the London club with a view to signing a four year deal.

Celtic did offer the player a contract but this was knocked back. Vata, who is represented by CAA Base, appears to have been keen for a deal that would include promises over game time, something that Brendan Rodgers wasn’t willing to give. The Irishman gave a fairly measured and cold response suggesting that the player gets his head down, bides his time and proves his worth.

Rodgers gave him a substitute appearance against Buckie Thistle earlier this year and the youngster scored but it wasn’t enough to get him into the team.

The player clearly sees himself going onto big things and is not wanting to hang about as opportunities are given to other first team players.

And we noted that Celtic’s position in that Lowland League last season illustrates that the Celtic B team is going backwards instead of forward and rather than professional development the Lowland league table (and remember the table never lies) shows a worrying regression.

In the closing months of Ange Postecoglou’s time at Celtic Rocco Vata was training with the first team. Last summer’s influx of project signings meant that incoming manager Brendan Rodgers had to send Vata and Daniel Kelly back to the Celtic B team, to make space for the new signings each to be evaluated and given their chance. That must have been demoralising.
