Abdallah Sima is now close to another loan move after his stand-out season with Rangers last term, according to Foot Mercato.
The French outlet reported via their website on 20 August that Brest have accelerated on a deal with Brighton to land the attacker for the current campaign without an option to buy, and an agreement is now close.
Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna added via X that the Senegal international has already agreed to the move and is physically ready as the clubs work out the final details.
The development comes as Rangers were hoping to bring the 23-year-old back to Ibrox this season on loan, according to Rangers Review (20 August), with those hopes raised after he was left out of Brighton’s squad to face Everton at the weekend.
Brest set to sign former Rangers loan star
It was always going to be a long shot for Philippe Clement to get Sima back this term but the Belgian himself had indicated he hoped there might be a chance later in the window [Daily Record, 15 July].
However, the difficulty appeared to centre around his £7million asking price being something the Light Blues couldn’t afford.
So it will likely come as some disappointment that he is moving on a straight loan elsewhere when that is a deal Rangers surely could have done.
Sima proved himself in the Scottish Premiership last term with 11 league goals, and five more across all competitions, and indicated that he would like to continue playing for the club.

Brighton may want to test him at a step up in Ligue 1 now but have still not given him his debut despite signing him three years ago, so the impending move could just as much be about developing a greater market for him.
Oscar Cortes was seen as the “perfect” man to fill the gap in January when Sima was ruled out for three months with injury [Daily Record, 29 January] and the Colombian has been brought back on a loan-to-buy move this summer.
But despite positive signs both times he has quickly been ruled out of action himself, increasing the strain on Clement’s weakened side.
In other Rangers news, there is concern over a “£5million man” for the Light Blues.
