Brendan Rodgers has revealed any bids Celtic have received for Matt O’Riley have been “a lot less” than the club are after.
The Hoops have received proposals from the likes of Atalanta and previously Atletico Madrid for the Danish playmaker but punted them into touch. The Scottish champions have slapped a £25million plus asking price on the player’s head as they don’t want to lose him for anything less, with Atalanta’s top bid only touching £17m to this point.
Rodgers believes from the outside looking into Scottish football, clubs across Europe often consider only the market in the country and not the player’s value itself and that has led in the past to smaller fees being accepted.

But having worked at the highest level in the Premier League with Liverpool and Leicester City, Rodgers knows the going rate for players as important as O’Riley and insists Celts won’t accept derisory offers.

Speaking to Sky Sports he said: “It’s been easy (to deal with) because Matt is such a great professional. Always the challenge for teams coming to Celtic is that they sometimes can place a value on the league and not the player.
“We all understand the model here, players will come in and develop. It’s not a club you have to move on from but there’s riches in leagues greater than ours that allows players to go and improve the conditions for their lives and we understand that.
“I think it’s really important from my perspective, if a player does leave here, that they pay the value for the player. And that’s not something sometimes can happen, sometimes a value can come in a lot less but I’ve worked in the Premier League, levels and players there and what values are, so no player will leave here unless it’s for the right valuation and at this moment in time there’s been no team anywhere near that.”
