Chris Sutton jokes what his ‘sources are saying’ about next Rangers manager already

Rangers are on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Russell Martin on Sunday.

Martin was given the axe at Rangers after a hugely disappointing run since taking over at Ibrox over the summer.

Rangers drew 1-1 with Falkirk on 5 October, in a result which saw supporters block the team bus, leaving the 39-year-old in need of a police escort.

Martin’s future was always going to be in doubt after the Falkirk draw, and the Light Blues hierarchy wasted no time in pulling the sack trigger.

Chris Sutton has now spoken out in a tongue-in-cheek manner to reveal who could replace Martin to become the new boss in the Govan dugout.

For Martin to need a police escort at Falkirk, it is safe to say that his position had become untenable in G51.

Results under the 39-year-old had been terrible from start to finish, and his comments in the media had begun to grate on supporters.

Making degrading comments about his squad in public was never going to go down well, and that looks to have caught up with the Englishman.

It was a no-brainer to sack him after the draw on Sunday, a result which has left the Light Blues eighth in the Scottish Premiership.

The hunt for a new manager is now underway with plenty of new options likely to be assessed by Andrew Cavenagh, Paraag Marathe and Co.

Sutton has put his thoughts forward, sharing what appears to be a joke post via X on 5 October, as he said: “My sources are saying Boydy [Kris Boyd] to come to Rangers’ rescue.”

The former striker may have the passion and desire that the Gers need right now, but it feels unlikely that the Govan club will call upon him to take over as manager.
