Rodgers’ triple Celtic injury update as trio doubts for Hearts
Brendan Rodgers is sweating on the fitness of Kelechi Iheanacho, Alistair Johnston and Cameron Carter-Vickers for Celtic’s trip to Hearts.
The Scottish champions are the visitors to Tynecastle on Sunday for a top-of-the-table Premiership clash, hoping to not allow the capital side to stretch their lead to eight points.
They could be without three players who suffered knocks during the 2-1 win over Sturm Graz in the Europa League this evening.
First pick centre-forward Iheanacho lasted only a matter of minutes before limping off to be replaced by Johnny Kenny. Right-back Johnston was making his return from a hamstring problem but seemed to suffer a recurrence. While Carter-Vickers was struggling towards the end but couldn’t be subbed off.
Rodgers told TNT Sports: “Yeah, well our problem was second half we could only make one substitution. So obviously Cam was struggling towards the end but we couldn’t give them off because we’d already made the subs, obviously got your three moments to to make the subs in the game.
The first two (Iheanacho and Johnstn) doesn’t look great. It looks like hamstring but but look, that’s what happens.
“But I thought the guys who came in, I thought Colby for a young guy coming in, I thought he grew in the game and got better and was more secure as the game went on. And he wants to go forward, which is what we wanted. And Johnny came in on the right-hand side and threatened in behind and pressed the game and had a couple of wee moments in the box where he nearly got on the end of it. So so yeah, the guys came in, stood up to it really well.”
