Barry Bannan shares what Danny Rohl will have been doing ahead of Rangers job announcement

Danny Rohl has finally been appointed as the new Rangers manager.

Rohl was announced at Ibrox on Monday following a saga that took over two weeks for Rangers to find a new manager.

Russell Martin’s disastrous reign in Govan has led to scepticism over Rohl’s ability to get the team performing instantly, starting at Brann on Thursday.

Having worked under him at Sheffield Wednesday, Barry Bannan has given his verdict on what kind of impact Rohl could have in Glasgow.

Danny Rohl paid close attention to Rangers

Holding a similar CV, if not worse than Martin’s, Rohl will have to hit the ground running if he wants to endear himself to the Light Blues supporters.

His first match will see Rangers take on Brann in the Europa League on 23 October, with the Bears looking to get their first win in the competition this season.

Rohl’s arrival caps off a tumultuous couple of weeks for Bears supporters, who believed that he was not going to be the man in charge for much of that period.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 21 October, Bannan gave an insight into what Rohl can bring to Rangers, and what he will have been doing beforehand.

He said: “He did a terrific job at Sheffield Wednesday when he first came on. He’s a confident young man who’s probably beyond his years in terms of his knowledge of football.

“He would have been watching Rangers from afar, as he’s been trying to get a job for a while. As I know him quite well, he’ll have been looking at clubs that are struggling, and he would have been doing his homework.

“He’s also quite adaptable: at Sheffield Wednesday, we’d change between two or three formations a game, and he’s definitely not stuck in his ways.”
